Viper 5902 / 5902V / 5902V 2-Way Security System with Color LCD Display

This has been a great alarm. The range is not quite as advertised, but I easily get about a half mile range in the city. Installation took a while, but it came out flawless. The remote can be a bit confusing at times, but it becomes second nature after a while.

I got this off Ebay for very cheap and installed it myself. Due to the complexity, and some bad internet advice, it took about 35 hours to investigate, install, and debug. To give you an idea, the wiring diagram for my Scion Xa is 220 pages. The Viper installation instructions are about 60 pages and there were at least 20 websites with often conflicting information about the wiring. The Scion Xa is a simple car and any modern/luxury car installation would be much more complex with bypasses and extra relays.

Now that everything is in, the unit is working flawlessly. With our current 106F heat index, the remote start alone is worth it. My A/C is blowing cold by the time I get to my car. I didn't have keyless entry before so that is also a plus. As indicated elsewhere, the range is no where near 1 mile but I don't care since I have the Smart Start cellular module (AT&T). I've been using my Viper alarm for just over a year now, and it is phenominal. The two way communication paired with remote start works great for anyone. The range is better than factory systems and a good percent of aftermarket systems. Remote start on hot days = good, remote start on cold days = great, but the ability to remote start and roll-up the windows on a rainy day is the best. I use mine with the Viper illuminated badge, so far no one has tried to break in, though I did have someone try to open the door when I remote started it while leaving the movie theater. Even in our car the system works as designed with a manual transmission. I would recommend this to anyone and suggest having a professional install (as they have the coders necessary to set everything up properly).
