I have previously only dealt with Compustar remote starters, and after installing this one, I will be switching to Viper products. This was by far the most hassle free remote start I have dealt with in a long time. I installed it in a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500, and if you're doing a similar GM Car, make sure to also buy the DLPKGM module! You can also use the DLPK (NOT DLPKGM) module on other cars, as long as they are compatible. This enables the Viper box to communicate with the Vehicle's computer using their "D2D" connection method. This lets the Viper 5101 box communicate with the computer to control the door locks, horn honk output, parking lights, head lights, etc without having to tap into any other wires. It even detects the temperature via the computer and automatically turns on the heated seats!
You don't have to mess around with voltage sensing wires or Tachometer wires either, as the autostart box uses "virtual-tach" to determine when the engine has successfully...Read more

I was excited about having the remote start for my truck. Before ordering the remote starter, I spent the time to review the installation instructions. I went on line to review the web site. I found neither very helpful. I am experienced with vehicles and electronics so I proceeded with order and the install. Everything went pretty well but when it became time to test, the functionality was erratic. Sometimes it would unlock the doors, sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes it started my truck, sometimes it just repeatedly horned the horn. I went back to the web for help and found none. The technical web site was accessible only to registered dealers. After two weeks of hit and miss, I removed the darn thing from my truck and now it sits in a cardboard box in my garage.
It's a viper.. nuff said.,

works great. Viper is a great brand. Got it professionally installed at a custom shop in my neighborhood. 100+ dollars on the remote start. 20 bucks for bypass module. $150. to install (best buy wanted $400.00 plus parts). In total $300.00 for a remote start system that couldve cost me over 400. plus 200 to buy it. I saved so much money. Right in time for winter and you get a great LED light to ward off hater.
