Summary: First impressions were good but 2010-03-05
Comment: First impressions were good - well packaged quality looking item. The tags looked substantial but the locator unit looked a bit flimsy.
The locator has a nice "soft feeling" finish and the tag buttons feel nice but the volume button is opposite the on/off button and that can be a pain. I do not know how long the battery cover will stay in place.
I setup the first tag and everything worked well but when I came to the second tag it would not register. I then tried to unregister the tag and reregister it without success. I then unregistered the first tag and tried putting the second tag on button one; neither tag will now register.
The instruction book does not contain a troubleshooting section and there is no "reset to factory settings" button on the unit. The manufactures website is of no help.
When setting up the locator up you get beeps and an LED light flashes; these do not seem to relate to what I am told will happen in the instructions. Although the unit has red, yellow and green LEDs to locate the tag it is only the one power on LED that flashes for every stage of the setup process.
In conclusion it is a good idea but I have lost faith in the item and have returned it for a refund rather than exchange.

Summary: Pet Finder 2010-03-03
Comment: We purchased this to locate our cat. WE like her home at night, but on nice nights, SHE decides when to come home. The product works as well as described. The batteries are pricy, but we are comfortable because it is doing the job we purchesed it for. The tags are always "on", so they need the batteries replaced every few months ($5 each for two batteries.) The pick-up is good and has a long distance, especially if there are no obstructions. The tags get wet when the cat drinks water, and the batteries tend to rust, which cannot be helped. The cat doesn't care for the beeping on the tag, so she tends to head home.

Summary: Not water proof 2009-10-02
Comment: I got the Loc8tor Lite to help me locate my cat. The device worked well for the first couple of weeks, but them stopped working all together. As it turns out, the tags are not water proof. My cat dangles his tags in his water bowl when he drinks. After a couple of weeks the battery housings rusted and the tag quit working. We switched to a smaller cat bowl and a second tag for the cat, but I don't have much confidence in the system.
I think this would work for locating objects, but I wouldn't recommend it for pets.

Summary: Tags fail when outdoors 2009-09-14
Comment: At least on the coast in California, my cats had their tags on their collars for less than a week and they failed. Even though it did not rain, I guess the fog corroded the insides of each tag and they stopped transmitting. When I opened them up, you could see the casings had corroded where the batteries made contact. Less than a week and both tags are useless. Save your money for using this product on cats unless you live in the desert....

Summary: Limited use. 2009-07-24
Comment: Considering the cost, I am disappointed in the unit. It has a very limited range and you get a false direction when you use it. I put it on my dog and had her go in the yard. When I turned on the unit it showed that she was in the front yard and not the back. Bottom line is you have to play with it for a bit when you first try to locate anything. The other bad thing is the range, I was VERY lucky to get 50' away and still have a signal and this was in an open space. It might be good for locating keys but for dogs or anything that moves I would not recommend this item. Replacement transmitters are VERY overpriced, they should sell for half of what they want for them.
