In my apartment complex I had my car picked clean including spare change and gum about six times. At first I thought it was me. Perhaps I forgot to lock it. But the sixth time, I knew I locked it. Somehow they still got in. And that was it. I wanted to get an alarm and leave my door unlocked and let the little snots get surprised. I went to craigslist of all places and a dealer was advertising this unit for 110 dollars fully installed. Considering that was the best price I saw anywhere of the big box retailers, I was skeptical. So I enquired. This particular installer used to be a "Head installer" for best buy and he stumbled opon this one a few months ago. He too was skeptical, but it had a limited lifetime warranty while most of the alarms in that price range only had one year. So he tried it out. Immediately he began getting good feedback on it from his customers...Read more 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: By Shawn Brown (Tacoma, WA, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Galaxy G20 Keyless Entry Car Alarm with 4 Buttons (Automotive) Not sure who installed S Mitchell's alarm, but apparently someone who didn't know what they were doing. I've installed car electronics for over 30 years and all ScyTek alarms I've owned have worked outstanding! I currently own the Galaxy G20 and I love it! The remotes work great, and I can arm/disarm the alarm from half a block away! Not sure why someone would have to stand next to their car to get their remote to work. Sounds like either the remote's battery is low or the antenna wire coming off the alarm module is shoved up under the dash or somewhere else that is not allowing it a good signal. Mine is actually hanging out from under the dash, not surrounded by any metal or wires. My doors lock and unlock as they should, with either the remote or ignition. The dome light comes on as it is supposed to. I also have both a shock sensor and a proximity sensor hooked up (using a 3-into-1 adapter plug that allows adding 3 optional sensors to 1 sensor plug). Both work fine...Read more 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By -TMcN- (Snohomish, WA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Galaxy G20 Keyless Entry Car Alarm with 4 Buttons (Automotive) The Scytek Galaxy G20 is a fine car alarm for the price... but it might cost you more.
The manual warns you that the warranty is void if not installed by a Scytek-certified installer. There's a reason for that; the wiring diagram is incomplete, and finding the correct places in your vehicle isn't always easy. For example, he siren has two wires, but only one on the wiring diagram. (Connect the black one to the car body or some other ground.) And the door locks of, for example, my 1991 Ford, require the addition of relays because the switch toggles power, not ground. (Pretty normal; a LOT of cars are like this.) The same for the dome light activation; against all logic, the G20 only provides negative out, not positive, for the dome light, so you'll most likely need to add another relay. Right now on Amazon, the price of this alarm is under $34. Needing the relays, I nipped out to the local (O'Reilly) auto parts store and got two generics and a pack of...Read more |
