How does the high-tech key work? The key contains a tiny embedded electronic chip called a transponder. Each transponder has its own unique code--it's the key's 'fingerprint'. When the key is inserted into the ignition and turned, the transponder is energized and broadcasts its unique code to the car's receiver in the dashboard. If the car's receiver recognizes the code, it will allow the car to start.

Okay who knows if the key even worked because i didn't really try it, i actually ended up getting a new lock so no longer needed the key, but when i returned it i never got a refund!!! They took forever to answer each one of my emails and seemed very uninterested to even bother helping. I have never dealt with such horrible customer service. It has been about a month now and still have received no refund!!!! And still to add-when i first added this item to the cart it said it was about nine dollars when i got charged it ended up being about 31.00$. Im really not sure whose fault that is, whether it's the company's fault or amazon. But having had struggled so bad Im really not sure if i would order from here again! A dollar is a dollar, and 31.00$ is still 31.00$, so i would still like my money!!!!
